VISA AND LICENSE

IER assists host school and the teacher with various visa and license issues and make sure the regulation and laws are complied to its standard.  Both host school and the teacher will be guided step by step in the visa and license procedure. Participants will be sponsored with either J-1 visa for up to three years or H1b visa for up to six years.

Our teachers will be able to receive a provisional license at your state based on their foreign credential.

ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORT

All teachers will be provided with pre-arrival guide and required to attend our online orientation upon arrival at the host school site. To better carry out our Teacher Exchange Program successfully, we request host school to provide and encourage opportunities for the teacher to act as a cultural resource, facilitating cultural exchange opportunities for student through school-based activities, events and community involvement.

In support of the primary purpose of the J-1 visa Exchange Visitor Programs; The U.S. Department of State requires that participants engage in cultural exchange activities during the course of their program. As a host school/district, we seek your support in this objective by providing opportunities that involve the teacher in local activities or special events promoting cultural exchange, such as community events (parades, festivals) sporting events, pizza parties or teachers present about their home country and culture…etc. A brief summary of cultural activities that were offered to the teachers will be collected monthly and be included to the annual report to the U.S Department of State.

J1 VISA HEALTH INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS

Based on the Federal law [22CFR 62.14] requirements that all Exchange Visitors (as well as their accompanying spouses and dependents) have insurance in effect that cover them for sickness or accidents during the time of their participation in the Exchange Visitor Program. The insurance coverage must meet and exceed the requirement set below.

  1. Medical benefits of $100,000 per accident or illness
  2. A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness.
  3. Medical evacuation in the amount of $50,000
  4. Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000

Most of the host school health insurance policies generally do not include international medical evacuation and repatriation insurance. In this case the Exchange Teacher will have to buy separate medical evacuation and repatriation coverage.
